The Adult Buddhist Association (ABA) is a community service-based organization that supports the programs, functions, and activities of the temple through fundraising and social events.

The 2026 application process for the annual ABA Community Service Award is now open.
This year the Sacramento Buddhist Church Adult Buddhist Association (ABA) will offer Community Service Scholarship Awards to deserving graduating high school students, college, university, vocational, or technical students. These Awards are funded by the Betsuin Scholarship Education Fund. At this time, the Award amounts are to be determined.
Graduating high school students and students attending an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school in 2025-2026 may apply for the Community Service Scholarship Award. The student must be a family member of the Sacramento Buddhist Church, ABA, Affiliated or Sponsored Organization of the Church.
The Scholarship Award is based on a competitive process that includes an application, essay, letters of Recommendation, and interview. The Awards are intended to recognize in addition to academic achievement, Community Service to others.
The evaluation criteria will include:
· Essay (limited to 750 words or 1½ pages) describing your Community Service and the development, planning and execution of Community Service projects; and/or taking a leadership role in Community Service activities.
· Scholastic achievement
· Two Letters of Recommendation
· Oral interview
An ABA Scholarship Committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant and will select Award Recipients. The Awards will be made at the end of the current school year.

Member families of the Buddhist Church of Sacramento and the Adult Buddhist Association are eligible for a monetary gift to 529 Savings Plan Accounts that are established for Dharma School Students.
Annual Contributions to Dharma School Students’ 529 Savings Accounts are made by the ABA Scholarship Education Fund. This Fund is intended for Scholarship and Education Programs of Betsuin Youth. Contributions to the Fund are considered tax-exempt donations to the Buddhist Church of Sacramento. For the 2025/26 school year the Buddhist Church of Sacramento, ABA contribution this year is $100. About Us
Community Service
As an Affiliated Organization of the Sacramento Buddhist Church, ABA supports the programs, functions, and activities of the Church. ABA helps to raise funds to pay for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility. ABA helps to support the programs of other Affiliated and Sponsored Organizations including Dharma School, Youth Sports Program, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Sacramento Buddhist Women’s Association, Seniors Program, and Sakura Gakuen. ABA provides financial assistance for youth programs and helps to fund scholarships and educational awards.
ABA provides funding and support for various programs and activities of the other Affiliated and Sponsored organizations of the Buddhist Church of Sacramento.

ABA Funding
ABA generates income from its fundraising events as well as from membership dues and donations from the friends and families of ABA and the Buddhist Church of Sacramento. Funding comes from:

How to Join
ABA membership is for the entire family. All members of the immediate family are encouraged to participate and enjoy all of the rights and privileges of membership
