Did you know the Buddhist Church of Sacramento’s original location was at 418 O Street, in the heart of Sacramento’s Japantown in the early 1900s? The Buddhist Church of Sacramento’s original location at 418 O street from 1900 to 1956. The temple was forced to relocate in 1956 as part of the Sacramento Redevelopment project which included the construction of the on-ramps to Interstate-5 and new state office buildings.
Discover more of this rich history at the new Sacramento Japantown exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum in Old Sacramento. The exhibit opens on November 7.
