Celebrating 80 Years

Have you recently visited Japan—or dreamed of going? Curious about the culture, the food, and the latest trends shaping modern Japan? You don’t need a passport to experience it. The 80th Annual Japanese Food and Cultural Bazaar brings the spirit of Japan to our temple for this special one-day event.

For 80 years, the Buddhist Church of Sacramento has shared the vibrant flavors and rich traditions of Japan with our local community. On Saturday, August 8, we celebrate this milestone with a fresh and dynamic theme: Where Tradition Meets Today.

This year honors the beloved traditions that generations have come to know and love. Guests can look forward to the unmistakable aroma of our famous BBQ teriyaki chicken—smoke billowing along X Street—as well as streamlined food lines for popular favorites including the Beef Teriyaki Sandwich, Japanese sweets like anpan and mochi, udon, sushi and poke tuna.

Blending tradition with today, the Bazaar also embraces the energy of modern Japan with exciting new additions. New programming and entertainment will create a vibrant festival atmosphere throughout the day, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The entertainment lineup is thoughtfully curated to reflect both tradition and contemporary appeal, beginning with Japanese cultural performances such as taiko, minyo folk dancing, kendo, and martial arts demonstrations. As the day continues into the afternoon and evening, guests can enjoy a new 10-piece band, a live DJ and rapper—bringing the sounds of today to the festival stage.

Our Bazaar leadership team is also hard at work curating and testing new selections of Japanese street food and Japanese-inspired bites, including ika skewers, okonomiyaki, and more, showcasing flavors currently trending across Japan.
